Our son wanted me to take some images of his car tonight with his new lights. So we went out and it was sprinkling and lightening and I didn't realize how bad the lightening was until it hit right near us! I used to take shots like this while I was in college!
PHOTOGRAPHERS NOTE: For those Stobist out there, you need is a tripod and an SLR camera that you can set on Bulb and a lot of patience.
This shot was a 16 second exposure and then I had him tap his brake lights and flash his head lights for only a second to get this. Exposure was at ISO 100, F/2.8 @16 secs. Canon 5D with a 35mm lens. Then Drag the shutter to get the glow of the under lights and the lightening. Then bracket like a bandit and keep going. My first exposure was 1 sec. 2 secs 4 secs 8 secs , 16 secs. And the 16 secs had all the right exposures. However the glow lights are blown out a bit and the head lights would of been blown out too, had it not been for him only turning them on for 1 sec.
Most of the image was taken in complete darkness and then KABOOM! I saw it before I heard it! Light and then 2 seconds later BOOM!
Its pouring down rain right now (and just started HAILING!), good thing we got finished in time.
Today we found out that he was awarded the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER Newcomer Award in the District (in District Football.) That's a lot of competition! We are very proud of you Scott! He worked hard and its nice to know the area coaches were paying attention. :)
