Reuben!

rueben blue
reuben1
Reuben is an interesting guy. Laid back, low key, but dont be fooled, hes watching everything! He plays guitar in a Christian band and seems more like a college student than a high school senior. He brought his adorable Dachshund CHUI! Chui was about the cutest thing Id ever seen and is like Reuben, laid back chill and sweet!

(once i got a bit too close to Reuben and Chui let me know to back off! LOL!)
I had such a great time with him. I decided to take him out in the heat (even though he hadnt signed up for that session) to get some pics outdoor and where did I take him? To the church that his grandpa had preached at! He looked at me like, "How did you know?" I didn't! I just followed my instincts. More pics to come later! Thanks Reuben, you were awesome!

Book o' the Month

One thing I love to do is read. Last year we got the book, the Purpose Driven Life by Dr. Rick Warren. http://www.purposedrivenlife.com/en-US/Home/home.htm

I had read it about half way through, and it was fantastic and then it got misplaced. Well I found it the other day (Under our bed!) and i dusted it off and have started back at Chapter One.
How much do I love this book? Here are some of my favorite sentences in the book Chapter 2 says "Long before you were conceived by your parents, you were conceived in the mind of God."
and this poem byRussell Kelfer

"You are who you are for a reason,
You're part of an intricate plan.
You're a precious and perfect unique design,
Called God's special woman or man.

You look like you look for a reason.
Our God made no mistake.
He knit you together within the womb,
You're just what he wanted to make.

The parents you had were the ones he chose,
And no matter how you may feel,
They were custom-designed with God's plan in mind,
And they Bear the master's seal.

No, the trauma you faced was not easy.
And God wept that it hurt you so,
But it was allowed to shape your heart
So that into his likeness you'd grow.

You are who you are for a reason,
You've been formed by the Master's rod.
You are who you are,my beloved,
Because there is a God. "

Moon over Wichita

moon11

What a beautiful night! Whenever I am tired, worried or stressed, I will go into nature, sometimes in my own backyard and pray. I always love to look up at the moon and the stars, if its clear enough. My dad said that one of the first things I said as a little girl was "SEE THE MOON! SEE THE MOON!" I laugh when he tells me this because he makes his voice high pitched. He would take me up on the roof of our house and we'd look up at the sky together.
I shot this tonight with my 200 mm, 2.8 Canon Lens. ISO 1000, 1/2500/sec. , f/5.0 spot metered, hand held (The moon travels its own distance every 4 seconds so you have to have a fast shutter speed.)

John and the Fam

John Holly 33
My husband works with a great group of guys. One of them happens to be John. When we went to Hawaii in January, John was one of the 2 that went with my husband for a program they gave at Hickham AFB. So i got to know him a bit and hes a great guy. Naturally I was very excited when his wife Holly asked me to create their newest family portrait. Military wives know the importance of family, as most of us move about a lot and we know that friends and family are dear. We have a natural kindred spirit automatically because we married Military men. (I'm very lucky we haven't moved around that much.) Her husband is getting ready to do a full year deployment to Asia and they will miss him a lot. So that makes this portrait even more special.
Thank you Holly and John for choosing me to create your family portrait. I'm really honored!

Charity & Ryan are Engaged!

I first met Charity when she was a high school senior and then she did some modeling for a photographer friend of mine for a class we held. Shes such a sweetheart, so spunky, happy and energetic. She was voted one of the top 10 most beautiful women of Dallas by the readers of D magazine last year, but is so down to earth and sweet.
Shes an awesome personal trainer in Dallas and recently got engaged to Ryan! I had heard a lot about Ryan and was so excited to meet him!
He was a college football player and is originally from California, and hes got those California hunky good looks! Plus hes very sweet and wonderful with Charity. :-)

We had a great time shooting in the highland park area of Dallas where Charity lives. The best part was shooting on the balcony of Charitys building with the Dallas skyline in the background at night! I'm not afraid of heights but looking down gave me butterflies in my stomach! We got so many great images, I could post 100s, but heres just a few for now. Thanks Charity and Ryan, you guys are so awesome and I cant wait for your wedding!

Vacation time

tristan swing

We are on vacation and we have one of our grandsons with us. The last two days we have gone swimming in the Guadalupe River near Bandera and Fredericksburg! We have been coming here for the past 13 years! Our grandson loved the tree rope swing!

Our son taught him all the fun tricks and things that hes done here since he was 4.!
Today we are going to Sea World! Its so much fun to see things through Tristans eyes. I love how his eyes light up and the smile on his face when he sees new things and places!
Its beautiful down in the hill country, we are currently in Fredericksburg TX right now, I love this part of the state!
Here are a few snaps of our grandson with sights along the way. Our staff is in the studio and taking care of things while we are gone. We'll be back soon.

Shawndas dad performed the ceremony and it was so cute, how he hesitated to say "I now prounounce you man and wife." It was so cute, as he almost couldnt say the words. But you know that he loves his future son in law Ryan. Who wouldnt love him?
Thanks guys for choosing me to capture this special day. It was beautiful, funny, tender and sweet!

Dixie Art!

What do you get when you combine 3 snap shots into one Digital Painting and paint by hand for about 6 hours?

I Love creating art, Ive been drawing since I was a child. I can spend hours doing it and never get tired (although my back and neck do!)
I love summer and the beach and Pelicans are so interesting to me, So I took some shots i had taken of some Pelicans when we were down at Padre Island last year and combined them to create this image that I'm entering into a Print Competition next week!
I don't have a title for it. But I stayed up until 2 am making it yesterday.
What do you think?
I can make these of anything. Your Home, your family, nature, whatever. As long as you have a picture of it, or I take a picture of it. I can make it into a Watercolor Art Print!
Takes me hours and hours but I love them!
Any title suggestions for this?
(PS I saw on the news where the oil spill has affected some of the Pelicans and Wildlife in Louisiana. It broke my heart!) We must take care of our environment and the beautiful animals that God made!

Our new Hollywood Pin Up Girl Promo!

Cait legs 1
WOULDNT THIS MAKE A GREAT FATHERS DAY GIFT FOR YOUR HUSBAND/BOYFRIEND/SWEETIE???

Ive known this sweetheart for several years and the camera loves her! I used to do Glamour Portraits here about 15 years ago and did them for several years, but stopped about 6 years ago because they just got boring and same ol' same ol'.
Ive always had a fondness for the 40s and 50s. My all time favorite movie is "The Seven Year Itch" with Marilyn Monroe. I love the clothes, the decor, the apartments, the cars, the shoes, all of it.
So I finally decided that I would start offering the old style "PIN UP" girl portraits!
These would make a wonderful gift for the man in your life! I know of a great hairstylist that can do the hair and I do the makeup. We collaborate on the clothing, I will be offering some, but you can bring your own!

Here are a few shots I got of Cait. She was a great model, and we shot on location (and despite the heat) she was quite a trooper!

Good things comes to those who wait.

I wanted to talk just a minute about a subject on my mind lately. About Patience. My mother used to always say "PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE". and Ive often heard "GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT."

I think I learned Patience young. My mother loved to go to the Fabric store and she knew that taking 3 little children into a place like that spelled disaster, so back in the 60s and 70s people often would leave their children in the car to wait. It was safe back then to do that. She told us not to talk to strangers and we wouldn't. We entertained ourselves in the car by playing all sorts of games, using our imaginations and talking to one another.

hawaii dixie (IMAGE ABOVE IS THE NORTH SHORE ON OAHU HAWAII ISLAND, Feb 2010)
I loved going to West Texas with my dad for our summer vacations, but the thing about my dad was he loved to conserve gas. So even though the speed limit was 70 he would drive about 50. He still thinks I should drive 50. I am not kidding. So a trip that was 303 miles, should of only taken 4 1/2 hours took about 6 and a half.

And with the windows rolled down, blowing super hot dry desert air and my dad listening to his favorite stations that played Lots of Hank Williams, Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash, I learned patience.

I remember once putting my hand out the window and tapping the antenna that was located near the front passenger window, which messed up the signal and tapping it over and over and over irritating my dad who never seemed to run out of patience. I remember him letting me drive, a three on the tree transmission, for long stretches of country roads. He taught me not to pop the clutch. How to accelerate slowly and letting out the clutch slowly, and he never once lost paitence with me teaching me to drive that Ford maverick.

I remember watching the ripples of heat on the highway blur the mountains in the distance and listening to my dad singing along with the radio and giving me a wink every now and then with his Paul Newman blue eyes.

I learned patience on that highway stretch between Plainview and Balmorhea Texas. I learned that even though you may be hot and tired and sweaty and dying to get to the natural spring fed swimming pool that you just had to bide your time and learn to entertain yourself in some way because getting all antsy wouldnt get you there any faster,AND IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!

My dad was a jeweler and he won many awards and trophies. My dad carved one of the hardest things to carve and that is JADE. and he wouldn't use power tools, he used a foot peddled modified sewing machine that he peddled hour after hour day after day for years. Yes he had a few drills and some power tools, but he did take his time. Crafting each piece, slowly and methodically. He never rushed. He always did it right he first time and he did amazing work. I have some things that bring tears to my eyes when I look at them. Yes, my father possess patience in abundance!

I learned that if I got too antsy then i upset people around me and things really got bad.The reason Im writing about this right now is that I have seen a lot of people very impatient lately, everywhere from stores, to the Graduation ceremonies, to traffic and yes to even my own studio.

I will tell you this. If you are a person who is a hurry to get your pictures taken and printed and back to you fast, then we are not the studio for you. You would do better to go to Walmart or Sears or JcPenneys. Because what we are about is patience, and quality. We take 4-6 weeks to get your portraits back. We have a new lab that will do it faster but I lovingly retouch the portraits myself and I take my time to do it right the first time. I think its important to do it right and have them beautiful because after all, arnt they going to be passed down to future generations? Its worth the wait.

I have and I will continue to turn away clients that are rushers. People who want evaerything yesterday. Because you see, Ive learned these people are unhappy people. And I dont care to spend my days around unhappy people.
I have walked this earth for 47 years and one thing I KNOW FOR SURE IS THIS. That you don't improve the quality of your life by speeding it up.

I know that the best things in life come about slowly. A nice home cooked meal, vs fast food. A beautiful yard takes years to develop and trees to grow and spread out to create shade and a place that children and butterflies and a hammock can thrive in.
To build a family takes 9 months of steady slow growing and you cant rush that, or you'll have disastrous results.

That home made ice cream tastes better than any store bought ice cream, and hand cranked tastes the best. To a finished beautiful Portrait that has a life time guarantee. Yes all the good things in life take time. All the things of quality take time.

When we were in Hawaii back in January, my husband was there on business and i was there on pleasure and at night when we would meet up for our evening meal, i noticed that he was on edge, impatient with the lines at the restaurants and edgy and moody. I saw crowds of people applauding the sunset, as they often do in Hawaii.

I heard the phrase often from the hotel staff and locals that Hawaiians operate on what they call "ISLAND TIME". Its a slower pace , a more laid back pace. I guess I must be part Hawaiian, because I've always been this way. Slow down and smell the roses.
Yes I know there are certain places and events that we must be on time for. School, work, job interviews, doctors appointments, etc. But guys... lets not be fanatical about the clock that we miss out on life. Everything is not life or death and so super important. If everything is important and urgent, then NOTHING is important.
Its spring time, lets chill and slow down a bit and enjoy life. We do not know what tomorrow holds for us and this might be our last week, or last summer. Life is to be relished and enjoyed.
Now I'm off to take a nice long bath and do nothing but pop bubbles with my toes. I hope you can do the same for yourself. Thanks Dad for teaching me that being patient and enjoying THE NOW is what life is all about.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PS--If you want a nice slow paced wonderful vacation that doesnt cost much and you can float in the crystal clear spring waters, then you might want to take a trip to Balmorhea State Park, located in West Texas. Its not crowded, no one is in a hurry and you can sit for hours and listen to the birds and watch the water flow and the cotton wood trees blow in the breeze. PARADISE! Take a tent or bring a camper or rent one of their nice rooms. State park owned and operated and very affordable. Oh and did I mention the stars at night are unbeleiveable! Thats why the famous McDonald Observatory is not far from there. The stars are the clearest and most beautiful there!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5ONL3XibuM
