Always Looking Up

Wow! What a great book! I saw this the other day in a bookstore and read part of it and just had to have it!!
Its called "ALWAYS LOOKING UP" The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist" by Michael J. Fox!

I grew up watching Michael J. Fox on his hit show Family Ties, where he played Alex P. Keaton. and of course all the back to the Future Movies! I even got to sit in his Car that he used at Universal Studios Hollywood in the movie!
Michael is 2 years older than me, but I always thought the way he did. Nothing is impossible, be optimistic and get out there and give it your all. I'm so amazed by him and his strength. He definitely knows how to make lemonade out of Lemons!
If you are looking for a good book to read by the pool, or to take on vacation this summer and curl up with then I really recommend it!
You can get it through Barnes and Nobles web site or maybe your local bookstore.

Burkburnett Boys on TV tonight!

We just returned from KFDX channel 3 where the Burkburnett PowerLifting Team was recorded for SPORTS SUNDAY SHOW with Ricardo LeCompte! http://texomashomepage.com/

It was fun to go back there. Ive been on TV there several times, and Ive employed some of their employees at my studio in the past! (mostly their Producers who have worked for me in various capacities!) Its a great station!

I'll post pictures later, but it comes on tonight at 10:30 PM. (that's in about 30 mins.) We are so proud of our Bulldogs! YEA!
Here is the video of our son at the State meet! He placed 4th in the state! he was very close to winning third!!
He lifted a total of 1,535 lbs! We're proud of all the boys! Heres his video, more to come later of other pics of everyone.

Turn it off Tonight for an HOUR!

"Turn off that light when you leave the room! Turn off that TV!" my dad used to always say.

Im really big about turning off things in our house. Our son goes to school in the morning and leaves his TV on, His ceiling fan, lamp light and bathroom light on.
And I dutifully turn them off for him.
Now its more serious than our moms and dads thought.

Turning off these devices can actually save a lot of natural resources and make a big difference in our world. It always bugs me when I go to Dallas and see all the lights on the buildings at night, and I just know there is no one in them. Someone just left them on! AUGH!

"Earth Hour" is one hour each year when everyone is encouraged to turn off your lights, literally.
The World Wildlife Fund for Nature instituted this international event to raise awareness of the need for the whole world to work together to take action against climate change.

The WWF encourages households and businesses to turn off all non-essential lights and appliances for one hour - you can do that!

This hour usually takes place the last Saturday in March and, this year, will take place on March 28th from 8:30-9:30 p.m. local time.

2008 was the first year that this event achieved worldwide participation, uniting all countries with one goal: Preserving our limited Resources. (Coal mainly)

Time to win a State Championship!

Well, its that time of the year again. The Burkburnett Boys Powerlifting Team is headed to the State Competition in Abilene today. (Actually they left Thursday) 7 boys are going and was featured on the front page of the Burkburnett Informer Star.

Our son, Scott, Tommy Dalke, Lorenzo Barnes, Mike Deggavich, Presont King Micheal Askew and Ryne Cozby.

These boys are amazing! They train so hard and they have won first place in several of their meets this year. Heres a photo of them at the REGIONAL MEET where they won 2nd place!

They range in weight from 125 lbs to 315 lbs, and are in several different weight categories, but one thing they all have in common. THEY ARE TOUGH STRONG BOYS! I'm so proud of all of them. They are like extended to family to my husband and I. They are all so dedicated and train very hard and even go down on weekends to the gym on their own without the coach and put in the sweat, effort, pain and hard work to be the best.

Our son has a couple of competitors in the state that will give him a run for his money, but the fact that he is only a sophomore and these boys are Seniors gives me a little consolation that if he doesn't place first, he was up against men and hes still just a 16 year old boy. But it Will be fun! We have almost our whole family coming from all over the state to see Scott and his friends lift! Its going to really be something to see.

I wont be online again until Sunday most likely, so I'll keep y'all posted! Here is a video that my husband shot of our son the other day in practice, (The video quality is low, it was shot with a cell phone video.) But in practice he squatted 650 lbs. (He squatted 705 last year, but hes lost some strength due to loosing 30 lbs recently in body weight. I hope these boys bring back a State Championship for Burkburnett High! No matter what, we are soooo proud of all of them! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEPBAzmH9q0

Sometimes I like to go out and shoot "wild art". I've got quite a collection of prints over the years.
Today I spied this beautiful scene from an alleyway just a few miles from our home.

Today I got to meet Stefanie! We did some unusual shots. I love her "pencil skirts". She has the perfect figure for them!

Here is a sneak peek of just a few of them. She was a natural in front of the camera like a model!

Thanks Stefanie and Julie!

Amazing Amanda!

Last week I got to meet Amanda! She drove quite a ways for her Senior Portraits. She brought along her friend and we laughed and laughed a lot. Amanda has those latin good looks with light "butterscotch" colored eyes. She was a lot of fun.

During her session our Studio Mascot Sheltie came into the room and plopped down right beside her!

I've only seen her do that a couple of times ever! It was so funny!

We had a great day! Thanks Amanda and Shelby! (PS They both want me to ADOPT THEM and write me on myspace a lot begging. Okay Girls, Ill adopt you, but you have to buy your own school clothes!) haha

Lookie what I got!

I just love the color Blue. Specifically ROBINS EGG BLUE.

I painted a bedroom that color a couple of years ago, and I wear that color a lot and wanted a truck that color. Its close to my birthstone color which is Aquamarine. Last year we had a robins nest in our yard. This year I bought this one to go as our centrepiece on our Dinning Room Table. I just love Spring, I have Bunnies all over, Nests, real and fake ivy. But mostly I love Birds Nests. Doesn't it look real?

I got it and some other ones and some birds too at the LAST STRAW. Its my favorite store in W.Falls. Cheryl and Nelda have the cutest things. Their website is under construction, but they are located in Scott Square here. http://www.thelaststraw.biz If you are ever stressed out, stop by there and get yourself some Pot Pourri, and browse around, Then drive down the street to Bahama Bucks and get yourself a Smoothie and all will be well with the world again, I guarantee it.

How Do I Know it is Spring?

Well by looking in my own backyard of course!

I shot these this morning in my own backyard. Its not a very big yard, big enough for a pool and 3 decks and some grass for the dog, our son and our grandsons to run around on.

I wish I had dozens of acres. But its all I have. But to me, Its a tiny slice of heaven.

I also know its Spring because yesterday was my daughters birthday. And she was born 3 days after the first day of spring. I think its so importrant to appreciate the little things... Dont you? I feel Gods presence when I look at nature. And Spring and babies are his way of saying "the world should go on." Hope you have a good Spring day everybody....

A Precious Couple

Wow Yesterday I got the privledge of photographing the most precious young lady! (and a few with her hunky boyfriend!)

Kalea is one of those girls who you wish your daughter would grow up to be like. She is a SOUTHERN LADY first and foremost, She is Smart, Super Sweet, Kind, Caring, Athletic, Funny, Loves the Lord, and G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!

I told her that she possesses all the qualities of a DIXIE CHICK!

She has so much going for her and I know that she could accomplish any goal she sets out for. Shes an amazing softball player, cheerleader and was Homecoming Queen at Burkburnett High School. (And her Beau Jason was Homecoming King.) She also recently was named "Good citizen Award Recipient" by the Daughters of the American Revolution. (DAR)

Jason is also a great guy. He is quiet, smart as a whip, Kind, thoughtful, SUPER ATHLETIC, He was the Quarterback for BHS this year and last year. He's down to earth. These two could conquer the world in my opinion.

I have actually never seen or heard anything negative about either one of these two kiddos and that's quite a feat in today's world. We had a great time and I'm looking forward to Jason's photos next week. (I had to cancel them earlier this year due to a minor emergency I had one day.)

Thanks guys for choosing me and letting me capture your Senior year memories! It was a lot of fun! First I'm posting the pics of the two of them and then Kaleas photos will come later today.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

Wow, with the warm weather and sunny days, I'm just feeling very froggy! By that I mean, HAPPY. I love SPRING. I am trying to lure the Robins to build nests in my yard! What do Robins like to eat? I will be so thrilled if I have another Robins nest this year. Last year I felt like I hit the lottery when I found the first one! Heres a photo my son took last year of it!
<----------------------------

We built this house 14 1/2 years ago and planted all the trees and bushes, and plants, and ivy and when a Bird decides to take up residence in one of your trees (or on top of your Pergola) its just so sweet! (I'm funny like that.)

Those 3 blue eggs were like Jewels to me! I almost had a conniption fit when I found them! So I'm crossing my fingers and hoping! Every morning I am waking up to hearing birds. It is so loud and they start at around 6 or 6:30, and I wonder then, Why DO I LIKE BIRDS???
Then I see them. Hopping around, drinking water from my bird bath, Playing, Flying, chirping, eating the seeds I put out, Just being birds and I'm so happy inside.

I guess it goes back to when I was little and I visited my grandmother Hazel in East Texas and she had HUGE PINE TREES ALL OVER HER BACKYARD, I saw my first Cardinal! I was about 9 years old then and I spied it through their den window!

I hollered "GRANDMA! THERES A BIRD! A RED ONE!" she looked at it calmly, like it was nothing, and said "yea, its a Cardinal!" To me it was amazing. A bird, in my favorite Color. Red. (Just like if I colored it with my favorite Crayon.) WOW! Then the next morning, when I was in the "little girls room" I saw a BLUE JAY!
A BLUE BIRD! I jumped off the pot! and ran screaming "NOW THERES A BLUE ONE TOO!!!!!
and he had a MOHAWK!"
Ever since then Ive loved birds. I try not to let anyone know about this, because its sort of silly, but I cant help it. I grew up in West Texas, where there was nary a tree, few and far between, so a Bird is something precious to me, and so are trees. (The only birds i saw were Sparrows and Vultures and sometimes Hawks! Lovely....)

In fact right near Odessa is a town called (I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP) NO TREES , TEXAS! Okay, they made it into one word, i think its spelled "Notrees" Its 21 miles from Odessa. And its desolate. Just cactus, mesquites, skunks, tarantulas, and rattlesnakes. Not fit for an Irish German little girl like me to grow up near.

I need my trees, I need my birds, I need my flowers... Okay, enough rambling.... Back to work.
Got lots more pictures to take!
Enjoy your SPRING BREAK! I certainly am!

Charles Swindoll quote

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

Stacey and Hank say " I Do".

Yesterday I got to spend the day with Stacey and Hank. I photographed their engagement photos last fall. I was so honored to be asked to photograph their wedding.

They had planned an outdoor wedding at a friend of theirs private residence. I hear its a beautiful home! But with the weather last week, they had to hurriedly change their plans to plan B.

The sun came out later in the day and we got some gorgeous sunset images on the golf course up near Gainsville.

The happy couple are now on a plane going to IRELAND for their honeymoon. Here's a few of my favorites. They are a fun and contemporary couple so I shot some sort of unusual type of images of them too! I love the Poision and Dangerous image! It fits them!

Here I go again, being Deep and Serious!

I read this book last year and wrote about it here on my Blog, but I want to tell you about it again.

If you want to read something that will inspire you. This book is so amazing. I first heard about this woman by the famous Dr. Wayne Dyer. http://www.drwaynedyer.com/about/

In 1994, a young woman, only 22 years old from Rwanda came home from college to spend Easter with her devout Catholic family.

Then the death of Rwanda's Hutu president sparked a three-month slaughter of nearly One million ethnic Tutsi people.

She survived by hiding in a Hutu pastor's tiny bathroom with seven other starving women for 91 cramped, terrifying days.
91 days in a tiny bathroom. Not speaking a word for 91 days. Almost discovered twice, with soliders only inches away from the hidden bathroom, she survived. During this time Immacule prayed a lot of the time and she did something amazing. She taught herself English.

She did not know why, but she knew that she would need to know English in the future. Her prayer and her belief in God is what got her through those horrible 91 days in hiding. She lost most of her body weight and was skin and bone when she finally emerged from that tiny room.

This searing firsthand account of Ilibagiza's experience cuts two ways: her description of the evil that was perpetrated, including the brutal murders of her family members, is soul-numbingly devastating, yet the story of her unquenchable faith and connection to God throughout the ordeal uplifts and inspires.

This book is a precious addition to the literature that tries to make sense of humankind's seemingly bottomless depravity and counterbalancing hope in an all-powerful, loving God.

F.Y.I.

Hey Gang!
I just wanted to write a quick post to let you guys know whats going on here lately.

As of Feb. 5th, Ive been down to a skeleton crew. Pam finished her testing and is now employed full time with the Burkburnettt ISD! Even though we miss her terribly, we are so proud of her and know that she is very happy in her new job!
She worked for us for quite a while and worked her way up to Office manager, and then last September went back down to Part time. She was a friendly face and often sent me email reminders about things pertaining to the studio and customers, etc. and kept me in line and organized.

We miss her! We are still interviewing for the position of Office Manager. We think we've found the right person but not totally sure. But pretty sure! So she may very well likely start part time soon, and then as she is ready in June become Full Time. (as the birds leave the nest at her home!) haha

My husband is working a lot in his new job and is away from home a lot! Its hard being like a single Mom, but as a military wife I'm used to it. I just dread it in the summer, when I have to mow the lawn and clean the pool and do all the honey dos that he used to do when he was home so much.

Thanks to all of you who have written about my mammogram results. I'm still waiting for test results and it is scary, but I know that things will work out they way they are supposed to.

Also thanks for your prayers about my DAUGHTER, she is going through a Horrible time right now and I don't want to elaborate, but its the worst thing that's ever happened to her and our family and we so appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

Our new part time girl Breanna is working out great! I just wish she could be here more hours! Its always hard training a new person in all the millions of details of the job, but she is learning quickly and is eager to learn more and to help things run more smoothly around here.
And what would we do without GINA! ?Our awesome graphic artist! Shes really amazing and always surprises me with her creativity! Thanks Gina!

As you all know or maybe not. I am a perfectionist with my work, and I take great care and time with all my photos. I am the main Retouch artist these days (Since Keisha was diagnosed with cancer, I hear she got a clean bill of health at her last exam) and I do all the photography as well.

Oh one note! If you have been trying to call and arnt having much luck getting a HUMAN BEING On the line I apologize!

When I am in shoots I don't answer the phone, When I am in a Viewing session (They take 2 hours or more!) I don't answer the phone. (Would you like your Dr. to answer the phone while hes examining you? Im sorry but until I hire a full time Office Manager, Breanna gets over 20-30 calls a day oftentimes!)

Sometimes email is the best way to get me, because I can answer it when my work is done like at 1 Am. Email to PDIXIE@sw.rr.com

This is usually our slow time, but we've been fairly busy and I'm falling behind on returning all calls and getting pictures to the lab etc.

A Photography studio is a lot more work than most people Imagine! (If you dont believe me, then come volunteer one day and you will quickly see how crazy busy it is!) We spend a lot of time on the phone with people scheduling their appointments, then 2-3 hours during most photo shoots. Then 2 hours or more during the Viewing process, then the hours and hours I spend retouching the photos and sending them to the lab, then the time to sort and box the orders.
Then setting up your appt to pick up the order. We have over 9 hours or more in each customers order! Thats a lot when you add up that we do 9-10 per week! That's 81-90 hours per week!

Many days I work from 8 am till past midnight, 1 or 2 am. Its a tough job but I do love it most of the time.

Thanks for understanding. In a couple of months we will be celebrating our 14year in business here in Texoma! I sometimes wonder why I got into this crazy business. Its the hardest Ive worked in my life (and I used to be a UPS DRIVER!) But It because of you, our clients. That Ive grown to love and know so much. You are like extended family to this military wife who appreciates each and every one of you. And thanks again for the wonderful emails and cards for my birthday the other day. I love all of you!

Thanks again everyone, We appreciate you!

Monday Monday...

Today was my day off, but I spent some of it volunteering at the Humane Society.

They really need volunteers bad there! It was a fun day, but now there are two pets I just have to have! One is a beautiful cat, shes black and white, and the other is a precious Red Miniature Dachshound!

Ill post photos of them later. Seriously, they are both so adorable and I fell in love with them both. Now to talk the hubby into it. haha. It wont be easy. :-)

If you have any time to spare, most Humane Society's in most cities are grossly under staffed and can use volunteers! Check into it! It was exhausting, but fun at the same time! Now off to another appointment. Some day off Eh?

The two things I love most about Renitta are that she is so Spontaneous and Fun! and That she is So Loyal. She is a true friend. Shes stood by myside through ups and downs and you cant ask for more than that. Also, I love her accent. Shes got a real strong Texas Accent.

Thanks Renitta for a fun Friday night. Cant wait to take you out on the Boat with us this summer again!
