Fear not the Dentist! Nor the Hyginest!

Okay Guys, I will admit, I am not afraid of Snakes, Spiders or much. But I am Scared of one thing. I'M TERRIFIED OF DENTISTS! Okay, Yes I said it. There.
Mostly because I had a horrible experience with a dentist when I was 9 and another when I was 14.
I admit I cancel my cleanings, I tremble when i walk up to the door. And Don't even get me started about ROOT CANALS!

But I decided that its not really the Dentist I'm afraid of. Its the pain, and its the bedside manner of the Dentist.
I have to be handled gently and I need them to understand that I'm a FRAIDY CAT!

The dentist who shall remain nameless right now ( who was great and didn't freak out about my painful cavity and accompanying infection!) I have been in a lot of pain the past 2 weeks, I cant even tell you how bad the pain's been. Throbbing, horrible pain, but of course, Id rather suffer extreme pain, than go to a dentist, (how dumb is that?.) I just couldn't take it anymore and called this new dentist i've heard so much good stuff about. But today I want to brag on his Hygienist Cheryl.

First of all let me brag on her! Her bright blue eyes and big smile and oh-so-soothing voice and kind words make the most nervous person calm. I think she is tops and she loves what she does and she tells you everything she is going to do before she does it.
WOW. I found a home! A dental home. Dr. Jackson. I love Dr. Green, he is great, but I wanted to try out someone new just to see what it would be like. Dr. Green did my zoom bleaching last year and he is amazing though and I love him too. :-) But my primary dentist Ive gone to for years, I had to switch (someone else here in town) because he wasnt very comforting or understanding of my fears.

This hyginest Cheryl, was so patient with me and told me to not to be ashamed, or afraid and that gum disease runs in some families, and it really doesn't mean you are a bad person. She was so great. I brush and floss, but I don't always get regular cleanings and it makes a huge difference. (How has my dad gone 80 years and never had a cleaning and his teeth and gums are great!?)

WOW. I know that I will look forward to cleanings now with her. One bad thing about periodontal disease is that it can spread to your arteries. I have my dogs teeth cleaned regularly (they knock her out when they do it.) BUT I'm afraid to have mine, and my best friend is a hygienist!

During my super busy day today, with all the errands I had to run, and places to go and decisions to make today on my day off, I almost thought that I was too busy to keep this appointment.

I thought of every way out of it. But I knew I had to go, and I knew I couldn't let a professional person have a gap in their schedule. (It causes them to loose revenue and its not fair. I don't like it when people do it to me.) So I went, and wow. I'm so glad.

I have to go back for another root canal, but I'm actually not dreading it.
I'm also going to have to have some serious "DEEP ROOT PLANING" cleaning done and I'm not dreading it as much as before. (THEY ARE NOT FUN, TRUST ME)

But I know Cheryl's warm smile and soft voice and gentle hands will make it a lot less fearful. Plus the laughing gas wont hurt either! hahaha...
