Amazing Letter

What a wonderful letter I received today!

"Dixie Hi, I just wanted to take this time to let you know that I'm the Aunt of Brittany Gibson. Her mother is my little sister and my best friend. I watched the CD that Kim brought to my parents home , It WAS So Wonderful.

Brittany is a very Loving and Giving person. When she was a baby (I still call her a baby)-when she was about two years old, she stopped talking. She only made sounds that none of us could understand. Kimberly sent her to Dr's and school's they all told her that they could not find anything wrong. Some people and a Local Church even told Kim that Brittany could not be in the Church group for her age , because she could not talk and no one could understand her. Some other people from the same church said that she had the Devil in her. And she would never talk or be anything.

It touches my heart so much to look at her today and see just how far she has gone. Brittany's heart is so full of the LOVE of GOD and for people. She always has a smile on her face No matter what she has to face. Last year was a very bad year for her . With the loss of her best friend, (who died in a car accident) and it just about ended her happiness for everything that she had faith in. That day when I looked at those pictures on that CD , my heart was so moved ,that all I could do was cry. Because I was also looking at Brittany back when she was 2 years old , And what people had said. To be able to see that all things are possible. All I can say to you is this .

Thank You so very much. I can't wait to see more . The song that was played with her CD, fit's Brittany so well. "When I call on Jesus." May God Bless you and carry all of us on his wings.

- Leslie Martin (Brittany Gibson's NaNa)"

Christmas Info and GIFT CERTIFICATE SPECIAL!

Just a note about our Holiday Schedule! :-)
This December will be our 12th Christmas Season at Photography by Dixie. We love Christmas time and are enjoying seeing all of you in the studio this time of year.

We've got the Hot apple Cider and hot Chocolate flowing freely (as always). The cutoff date to order and guarantee your portraits will be back in time for gift giving is
December 14th.
We love seeing you all in your Christmas attire and all the babies and families, but remember that regular Classic style clothing (color coordinated of course) is still the best type of portrait and does not go out of style quickly.

We can and do make exceptions for portraits taken later, just give one of our associates a call and inquire about any special requests.
Remember that a Photography by Dixie gift Certificate is one of the best gifts you can give a loved one!
And for the month of December we offer our "Cold Winter/ Hot Deal" special, where your money is doubled!
Buy a $50. Gift Certificate and get a $100 instead! Buy a $100 certificate and get a $200. Certificate! You get the idea. This has been a popular offer we do each December.
This is a great way to strech your Christmas dollars. The certificates are valid for 6 months after purchase and can be used for any service or product we offer in the studio!

Just give us a call and we will mail you a lovely Gift Certificate Embossed and ready for someones Stocking!

A week ago on Saturday Nov. 17th I wrote in my Blog the question of the day.
The question was "What is the Nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?"

Here are some of the emails I received. I was so inspired by them!

"the nicest thing anyone ever did for me was when my sister drove all the way from Seattle Washington to Wichita Falls for my 16th birthday. She drove 4 days straight just to see me. It meant a lot."
Amber C.

"when my wife said I will marry you."
Jeff H.

"the time my dad gave me his ice cream cone when I dropped mine."
Molly G.

"the Time my best friend surprised me with a sweater I had been wanting in the Mall."
Tiffany B.

"My mother who gave me life!"
Amanda K.

"When my husband proposed to me at the top of Reunion Tower in Dallas."
Diane W.

"There are so many things its hard to count them, but I guess when my husband cleaned the entire house from top to bottom when I was sick."
Stephanie G.

"When my parents gave me my Mustang for my 16th birthday. They put a big bow on it in the driveway and surprised me."
Briane H.

"When my dad called me from Iraq on Christmas Day last year. That was the best present ever." Josh G.

"My girlfriend went fishing with me even though she hates to fish."
Tyler W.

"When my kids baked me a cake for my birthday and put chocolate covered strawberries on top of it . It was the most beautiful thing Ive ever seen, and it tasted great too."

ITS SNOWING!!!

Its snowing! Here's a shot of my son outside tonight playing in the snow. The flakes are really big at our house. That's my truck Lucille in the background covered in the white stuff.

Scott is getting his permit since he turned 15. His first driving lessons happened in that truck (its a standard transmission, 3 on the tree.)

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! Now back to the movie were watching. "A CHRISTMAS STORY".

Yep! I was one of them...

Here an image I created today while sipping hot apple cider. I usually use these glasses for Hot Buttered Rum, but I thought it would be good for cider too. (Did I ever mention here that I originally wanted to be a commercial photographer?)
Okay... Well I have to admit, I was one of the "crazy ones" who went shopping in Dallas on Friday. But it really wasn't bad. I wasn't going to go shopping, I had wanted to relax and stay home. But our son had a playoff football game in Dallas, so I decided to go.

Next thing I knew there I was at VISTA RIDGE MALL in North Dallas!

It really was not crowded. I went later in the day, around 12:30.

First I went to Bombay (they are closing all their stores and was having 30% off. ) BOO HOO. that's one of my FAVORITE STORES!

I shopped all over Vista Ridge and then went to GardenRidge, La Madeline, Kirklands,
Gymboree, Macys and Hemispheres.
Got a jump on a few gifts for our 4 employees and my daughter.

Then went to our sons football game. Unfortunately they lost to Abilene Wylie, but it was a great game and our son, who is only a Freshman, actually got to suit out with the Varsity! It felt great to be at a football game that was Cold and brisk! That's the way football games are supposed to be! It was great to cuddle up with a blanket with all our friends! Even though I paced around taking lots of photos of the game.
Sipping hot chocolate with my husband, Father in law, Devin, Tiffany, Evette, Russ, Hoss, Janet, Former Employee Crystal and her family and others. Thats what football games are all about!

We followed the bus home back to Wichita Falls and got home at 2 AM.
Phew what a day!

Back to the Hot Apple Cider (Tastes great with Red Hots in the bottom of the Mug, like my mom always makes them.)
Stay Warm!

I had a great time with this family. Wow, they all look like models. The beautiful mom and daughter and tall strong strapping son handsome Dad. I really enjoyed getting to know them and we spent a brisk cold evening taking their new Family Portraits.

It was very cold, but you'd never know it by looking at them. We put on coats in between locations and warmed up. This is on their Ranch up about 70 miles from Wichita Falls, and it was breaktaking. I loved the moss in the river and the beautiful oak trees.

Thank you guys! It was a lot of fun! really enjoyed it! I cant wait for you to see your portraits!

Remember those less fortunate

As we enjoy our Thanksgiving here in America. Please lets remember those less fortunate than us. The people who are homeless and hungry in this country.

Hunger to Hope is a cooperative effort between K-LOVE radio, (THE MOST AWESOME RADIO STATION!) a nationwide Rescue Missions and Ministries to help feed and care for the hungry and hurting.

Last year, they were able to provide more than 350,890 meals with the funds raised during this campaign. They hope to exceed that amount for 2007!

The average cost of a meal is $1.90, so your donation will go a long way to feed and care for those who are less fortunate during this holiday season. Regardless of the size of your gift, whether large or small, you can be sure that your donation will make a big difference to the hungry and homeless in your area. The need is great: the participating Rescue Missions and Ministries served more than 2.1 million meals during November and December of 2006 and this year the need is sure to increase.

Thank you for joining us this year to help these Ministries care for "the least of these." You can make your donation on-line via MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, debit card or even a check. Simply click on the link below

A million miles per gallon!

The future is here!

Even though I come from the West Texas Oil Fields, I understand that we just cant continue to rely on fossil fuels for our transportation.

Chevrolet has recently come out with a prototype car called the VOLT. You literally plug this car in an electrical outlet over night and can drive up to 40 miles! It will have a back up gasoline, or ethanol tank. You could literally go a month or two without buying gas. (If you drive less than 40 miles per day, you could go a lifetime without ANY GAS PERIOD!)

I saw one and they are very sporty looking. Similar to a Dodge Viper in my humble opinion.

And dont think because its electric (Hybrid) that it doesnt have horsepower. The Volt accelerates from a dead stop to 60 mph in less than 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 120 mph! It should be available in 3 to 4 years. (They are working on making the battery super strong and faster to recharge (currently it takes 6.5 hours to fully recharge).

We've got to make changes for the sake of the worlds future. Im sitting here in the middle of November with all my windows open looking at my green lawn and wondering why its 80F outside right now, when its only a month before Christmas? Any guess?

(Also they say you can save up to $1,000. a year in gasoline savings!)

I seriously am thinking of getting one of these when they come out.

To read more about it, go here! http://www.chevrolet.com/electriccar/?seo=goo_electric_car

"Kindness Matters"

Todays Question:

Whats the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

I'd love to hear your comments.

email me at pdixie@sw.rr.com

I am thinking hard about that question.... there are so many.

I may have to list the top 5.
I'd love to hear from you and i'll post some of them.

"No Act of Kindness, No Matter How Large or Small, is ever wasted." -Aesop
Then the 2nd question is-
"Whats the nices thing You've ever done for someone?"

:0) D.D.
By the way, I googled Nice and Civility and there was this article. Its interesting and I agree. We need to go back to the time when most people were much nicer.
The article also says " a landmark Public Agenda survey found that 84 percent of us think lack of respect is a "serious" national problem. An equal number said self-control and self-discipline are essential for children, while two-thirds said youngsters always should address their elders as "Ma'am" or "Sir."

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

Please keep your prayers up for Keisha. She got some news today which wasn't really good.
I just ordered the book for her from the awesome young lady Kriss Carr. I saw Kris recently on Oprah and her TV documentary. She is a young woman who has canSer (as she calls it) and she has kept it in check by eating very nutriously and taking vitamins and living life and laughing a lot. Her tumours are staying the same size. (She calls them Beauty Marks)

She has the attitude of a survivor and is an awesome person! Check out her site and Blog at
http://www.crazysexycancer.com/

They say Laughter is the Best medicine and I believe it can help!
Also, she has written a book (its for sale on her site, I got one for Keisha through Amazon.com)
and her movie will be out on DVD soon. (the name of it is "Crazy Sexy Cancer"
She does yoga and "juices". Shes amazing!
By the way, I've been reading and the experts say that a lack of Selenium is connected with cancer. Selenium is a trace mineral that is found in Brazil Nuts, Garlic and Cold Water Fish such as Salmon!
(Of course I bought Keisha a huge thing of Brazil nuts from Wal Mart)
and also Vitamin D (either through enough drinking or eating it, or getting a lot of SUNSHINE, or supplements) is very important.

I hope you check out Kriss web site. OPRAH Love this girl! http://www.crazysexycancer.com/
Continue your prayers and emails to me, to mail to Keisha.
HUGS TO ALL!

Our sweet Keisha...

Unless you are new to the Blog, you know that one of our treasured employees was just diagnosed with cancer.
Today, our Beautiful Keisha and mom are on their way to Houston to begin Keishas chemo and treatment.
These portraits were only taken about a month ago.
Amazing what can happen in only a month!

I hope you all will truly keep her in your prayers. I can't tell you what this young lady means to me. She and her mom have been through hell and high water (Hurricane Rita) the past few years.

They really didn't need this.

Yesterday Keisha did something both BRAVE and SAD. She cut her beautiful long blonde hair.

She wanted to be proactive so that when it begins to fall out it wont be so devastating.
Seeing her cute new Bob was a shock to me, but in a way empowering.
Her smile is amazing...
In her short 20 years on this earth so far, she has more courage and bravery than a seasoned soldier.
I know she will do well and be 100% cured. Your cards and letters will be forwarded to her
Safe Travels to Houston Keisha and you are in our prayers.

Thank you!

Wow, What wonderful clients we have!

I just got the sweetest email from one of our Brides mothers. She gave me a lot of good information to pass on to our employee who has cancer and a phone number. I called the person and he was fantastic!

Thank you Crystal, sometimes God uses everyday people as Angels on earth.
I know you certainly are one!

I put the song "TOUGH" on my blog Jukebox (located to the right of this)
It reminds me of all the strong women who fight cancer and are survivers.

Keisha can use your prayers everyone.

The Ultimate Photography

My dad was the first person to interest me in space. He used to put me up on the roof with him and we would watch the moon. According to him some of my first words were "SEE THE MOON!"

Then as I got older, he would take me out of find meteorites with him. Ill admit as a teen, it was my least favorite thing to do.
But now I'm amazed by it!

My dad found hundreds of meteorites in Odessa near the Odessa Meteor crater.
Hes sold many of them and donated one to a museum, but he still has a lot left.

My dad is a jeweler and I'm designing a new line of jewelry with I'm made with his meteorites. The jewelry line will be called "A Slice of Heaven".

I have a friend whose husband works for Oprah. (He's the same photographer who shot Eva Longoria & Tony Parkers recent wedding.) And since he and Dawn believe that Dreams come true, I know he will help me.

When we have the first bracelet I designed ready, we are giving Oprah one as a gift! Talk about rare. Any woman can have diamonds, but to have jewelry made from a slice of Heaven... Well that's very rare! (Im also designing a more expensive line called "STARS". which will be more upscale and elegant (and thus more expensive) than the Slice of Heaven Line.

Im very excited about it.

If you want to more about the jewelry send me an email! pdixie@sw.rr.com or call the studio at 940-761-5111.
