My favorite Movie EVER.

Well Tonight was homecoming for Burkburnett and they won!

I wanted to show you a clip from my all time favorite movie. My very first Photography instructor , Steve Goff showed this to us in class back in 1987 and its been my favorite ever since! The photography in it was cutting edge (special angels and different ways of filming)
I love Holly Hunter, shes from Georgia, but her accent sounds like from Texas.

I hope you enjoy this clip from the movie.

(I know its corny, but I cant help it. it always makes me laugh!) The Coen brothers (Directors) have such a strange sense of humour.) Heres the clip below. Beware there is a curse word. The B word. Sorry!
Heres the link.

Daring Devin!

Devin is one brave girl. This girl is up for ANYTHING! Even hitchiking off a state road!

We had a blast. She can do a great impersonation of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind. She reminds me of her, espically with these sunset images and her gorgeous dress.

This song brings me to my knees!

This song makes me cry every single time I hear it. And I don't mean a little tear. I mean Big sobbing crying, where I cant even see. Tears everywhere!
Nicole Mullen is fantastic! What an Angel.

I just love it.. Since the first time I heard it last May, when my daughter was going through a really hard timeand my former mother-in-law was dying.

I would drive the 6 hour drive to see them, and listen to this song and cry and cry and cry.
It just moves me. I hope it does you too.
Goodnight my friends

And one more from Nicole that really gets me too is below.

Camera bag

Everyones been asking about my camera bag the past few months. I used to share a lot of info with photographers-(unfortunately one of them copied me so much I had to be more selective who I tell what.)

But I'll go ahead and tell you guys where I got my cool Camera bag (ShootSac) in a minute (Since I love the creator and I told her I would tell everyone who would listen! haha)

I've just ordered a second one as well. A crazy lady I met in Vegas (named Jessica) last year had one on her shoulder and when I asked her about it, she said she had invented them and was about to launch a web site to sell them. She gave me her card and I waited patiently until she notified me she had a manufacturer and was producing them! I was one of the first to buy one and love it!

Since I redorated my guest room with this Baroque style fabric (Pillows, Curtains and Accessories) I decided that is the fabric I would use. I recently ordered a second one for my backup camera and lenses for my assistant to carry.

Jessicas site is at http://www.shootsac.com/ Tell Jessica I sent you!
They run about $250.00

Here is a couple of photos of mine.

Important Link if you have children

Link to the Today show about Bacterial Meningitis.
Please read! And Please watch the video about the teenager Ashley. I just made an appointment for my son. If the child is under 11, you need a doctors prescription, if not, then you can easily get the shot administered.

Vacinate your children for Bacterial MENINGITS!

On a serious note here.

I have been hearing a lot about Meningitis lately, and have been investigating it. A lot of college students and high school students can catch this disease and it works very quickly. Some people can die within 24 hours! They can also loose an arm or a leg from it! About 3,000 people get it each year and many die.

It is not required by the schools to get this vaccine!

Please check into having your child immunized against this disease. Also tell your children not to share chap stick, water or toothbrushes with other students. This is a bacterial infection which causes a stiff neck, fever, chills, and a RASH! If you have any of these symptoms, or your children have, call 911 and go immediately to the E.R. !

It is very important to act quickly if they have those symptoms.
Better yet, just have them immunized.
There are 2 immunizations for this right now, ask your doctor.
Here is the web site http://www.nmaus.org/

Here is a recent story about a Texas boy.

Nancy Day
Midland, Texas

Mother of Kyle, Who Survived Meningococcal Disease

Nancy Day of Midland, Texas, never suspected meningococcal meningitis, a rare, yet potentially
deadly disease, could strike her 16-year-old son Kyle, a junior in high school. Although Nancy
had heard of meningitis, she was unaware a vaccine was available, which could have helped
protect her son from contracting this devastating disease.

One Sunday morning, Kyle woke up feeling tired, complaining of a headache and nausea.
Concerned for her son, Nancy gave Kyle some medication for his headache and instructed him to take a nap.
Nancy was fairly certain Kyle was developing the early stages of the flu and wanted
to keep a close eye on him over the next few days. At 4:00 p.m., Nancy checked on Kyle as he
slept. When she leaned over the bed, Nancy realized that he was in a semi-conscious state and
had developed a rash on his back and right arm.

Frightened and nervous, Nancy took Kyle to the emergency room. Upon arrival, doctors
performed a spinal tap and confirmed Kyle had meningococcal meningitis, a serious bacterial
infection that strikes adolescents and young adults. Although caught in its early stages, Kyle still
suffered the loss of his thumb and two fingers. Nancy credits Kyle’s survival to the prompt
medical treatment her son received at the hospital.

Nancy and her family feel extremely lucky Kyle has survived from the disease, but know several other families who weren’t so fortunate. So often, meningitis takes the lives of adolescents and young adults or leaves them with serious complications such as leg and arm amputations.

These days, Kyle is finishing up his second year of medical school and spends his time playing soccer, ice hockey and basketball.

Nancy joined the National Meningitis Association’s “Moms on Meningitis” program to help
educate other families in Midland about the dangers of meningococcal disease and prevention
methods, including immunization.
A vaccine to help prevent meningococcal disease is approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration among persons aged 11 to 55 years. The vaccine protects against four of the
major strains of the disease.

Anyone can get meningococcal disease, but adolescents and young adults are increased risk for
contracting the disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends
meningococcal immunization for all adolescents 11 through 18 years of age.

This was also on the TODAY SHOW today Sept. 20th. Please have your child immunized immediately!

ALSO you can have an educational video and information given to your childs school for a donation of $20.00 Ive ordered one for Burk High School, go to this link to get your own.

Yep, Im a bookworm.

In order to balance my hectic schedule with "real life" I love to sit outside and read. We have lots of places to sit and read out doors. In fact I counted there is seating for 19 just in our garden!

(I have an obsession of chairs, benches, etc.)

Our whole family loves to read. I think this is one reason our son does so well in school. Hes a great reader and reads fast!

My husband always has a book in his hand too! Its a great way to relax and spend time together. (Quiet days and evenings are Mandatory in our house sometimes!)

Right now I am reading Hemingway. I love anything by him or about him.

I wanted to tell you about a great place to get old books. and lots of other great finds!

It's the Mansion II Antique Mall, downtown. They have 50% off their books and they've got lots of great finds!

The owner searches far and wide to get the best books.

I picked up 4 the other day while there. I wanted an original edition of Gone with the Wind and they had it! Of course, I love the sea and Hemingway. They had plenty to satisfy me!

They are located at 914 Indiana across the street from the Wichita Theatre.(not far from the library).

I hope you'll go in and see what you can find, the owners are great! Ive been going for about a year now and always am thrilled with what I find.

Its time for work now, but I'll get back to Hemingway tonight.

Liz you made my day!

Got this yesterday from a sweet lady..

"Dixie

My husband and I wanted to take a moment and write to express our sincere thanks for the beautiful job you did on Addy's photos. From the first time we met you (when we were engaged in 99) to our wedding, to the family reunion photos to now our baby girl.

You have been there to document it all.
We feel so fortunate to have you as our family photographer and our home is plastered with your pictures! We always get more than what we expect when it comes to you, and your sweet demeanor and open mind is appreciated. You never tell us no, you always take on my crazy ideas with a smile on your face! I love your creativity and how you "light up:
when I tell you what crazy ideas I have.

We feel like you and Bruce are a part of our family , and the girls that work for you are always so great too.
If Mike ever gets transferred and we have to move, we don't know what we would do without you. My mom once tried to hire a differnt photographer to come to our home on Thanksgiving for pictures and even though I wanted you (you were going out of town ) I was really disappointed in this other photographer.

I wont name names but it wasn't a good experience and the resulting pictures were disappointing.
I just think that the world needs to know how you go the extra mile, how well you treat us (and the friends we send you) and what a genuine kind person you are.
Sometimes in life we don't get the chance to tell people what they mean to us before its too late. This letter is to tell you guys just that.
God bless you and THANK YOU!"

A position is open.

ATTENTION! HELP WANTED!

Well I wanted to send out a Notice that I am now in the Market for a new housekeeper.

Our beloved housekeeper Anita is retired now! BOO HOO!!!!!

If you know of a good housekeeper with refrences and who is bonded, please drop me a line and let me know (and theres a gift for you for your trouble!)

We loved Anita and her daughter Miraya and she always treated us so sweet. (and she always brought me lots of gifts from Mexico!)

One thing is a fact, I always spoil my housekeepers! With gifts, food and lots of love. So hopefully we will be able to find one soon.

I enjoy housework believe it or not, I did a lot today! ( but with 4 bathrooms, and 2 men in the house...plus a dog, I need some help!)

But really my weekends belong to my family (I am not accepting any more weddings right now for the rest of 2007 or 8. Ive limited them to only 1 per month. ) I am referring them to another photographer in town, so drop me a phone call or email if you want a referal. (If you twist my arm, I might take another one or two, espically if its a current client of ours.)

We have been going to Palo Duro Canyon a lot and my husband loves to play golf and Im learning to play as well. So weekends when Im not at a wedding, then I will not be dusting or vacumning.

Just drop me a line at pdixie@sw.rr.com with your referall.

Also, whomever refers the housekeeper that I hire, will get a FREE family session ($50.00 value!) Or if you've already been photographed, you get a $50. credit towards a portrait order)

Its my husbands fault. He hired a housekeeper for me while I was pregnant with our son, when we lived in Japan -over 15 years ago,
She was my "mama-san" Mitzko, and we loved her as well. She cried when we moved, and we exchanged gifts. Ill never forget her, and how much she loved our son. She was great.

Then when we moved to Wichita Falls 13 years ago, I was so spoiled I couldnt do without one. Its all my husbands fault...he truly does spoil me. Looking forward to hearing from you guys!

Sundays are for rest...

Have a restful Sunday all.

and rearranged and decorated one of our patios. Cleaned the flower beds, painted our porch swing with a fresh coat of white paint, etc.

Cleaned the pool as well!

It was a very relaxing great day. I listened to my new Jim Brickman CD "HOPE" the whole time, and ocean wave music. I have many many of Jims Cds and hes so great! Hes been to Wichita Falls twice and I saw him once at the Myerson Symphony Hall in Dallas.

Love that guy! Hope he comes back. To hear him or read go to http://www.jimbrickman.com/
November 26th he will be in Lubbock! Its worth the drive to see him. AMAZING...

Another Bulldog Win!

Well the Freshman Burk Bulldogs won tonight to Springfield. What a game! 28-14.
Here are 3 photos of our son #73 sacking the Quarterback tonight.

All the guys did great! The QB Canon did fantastic, Attrell, Derrell, Temi, Aaron and on. But of course, I am most proud of my son Scott! He got so many tackles we lost track, and the cool thing was literally in the first 4 seconds he Sacked the Quarterback!

He sacked him twice. We are so proud. He works hard and never gives up.

He was soaking wet with sweat at the end of the game. I do mean soaking!

What a great time! Also his grandparents drove from Dallas and our friends Barbara and Joe were there. They are the parents of my husbands best friend since high school. What a darling couple and how wonderful of them to drive so far to see Scott play.

It was a nice evening (the weather was perfect!) and a lot of fun. Now to edit all 324 photos i took.

We love you and are so proud of you Scott! Now your dad is going to reward you with taking you to see the A&M and Louisiana game Saturday! Were proud of all the Bulldogs! You played your hearts out and it showed!

PS i hope that his name is in the newspaper on Friday. It has been the past 2 games. (for my scrapbook)

Commercial for "football widows" like me.

Well, As a wife and mother, I both Love and Hate football season. I love it because my son plays (his 4th year of playing) but I hate it when my husband wont do a thing all day on Sunday because "The Big game is on today sweetheart!" as he says.

Which means, the Pre game, the Game itself, the after game replays, then the Next game (usually a college game) then MOnday night football. It goes on and on and on...

I dont know about you ladies out there, but I usually have a "honey-do" List a mile long on our refrigerator and almost NOTHING gets done on a Sunday if the Cowboys are playing, Or if A&M is playing, or Tech, or .... you get the idea....

So I laughed my head off when I saw this commercial.
Can you really imagine women doing this? Not me. Maybe if I wont the lottery, I might break dance.
I hope you enjoy it. Let me know if you did.
I blew my Olive Garden bruschetta all over myself when I saw it.
It makes me laugh over and over. Enjoy!

Delightful DEVIN!

My Goodness Devin was soooooooooooooooooo much fun!

She is articulate, funny, clever, witty, super intelligent and wise way beyond her years!

She wrote to me last year saying that as soon as she was a Senior she was coming here! Well we finally got her in!

Devin loves to Sing. and WOW what a voice! Shes amazing!

And shes not shy either... She exudes personality and confidence. And that Laugh.

For some reason she found my sense of humour to be very funny. (some people dont get my sense of humour)

We laughed and laughed till my stomach hurt.

She also likes to play a game of football with the boys.

We had such a great time. Im looking forward to photographing her in her Prom Dress next week.

I just love meeting and getting to know people like her. What a joy.

Thank you Devin, you really made my day!

(and I thought Sept. 11th was going to be a negative day.)

Good Morning!

Well, I woke up at 5 am sharp this morning. Dont know why, but Ive been waking up very early, without meaning to. Yesterday I woke up at 4:00! I usually get up at 6 or 6:30 with my son to get him off to school, (he catches the bus at 7 am !)
(but i'm not normally up at 4 or 5:00.)

It's amazing the creative things I think of at this time of the day. I've designed a new gate for our fence, and built it, I have redecorated our guest room and got all the ideas for what to do at that time of morning.
I get ideas for competition prints and have a notebook next to my bed to jot the ideas down. It just seems my creativity is soaring lately!

Another benefit of getting up so early is seeing the sunrise while enjoying my coffee. The temperatures are so nice this morning. It is 6:30 as I write this. Have a great Septemeber 12th!
PS Hello to my friend Luigi in Italy! He is an Itallian Photographer who reads my Blog Every morning! Ciao Luigi! Hope to see you soon! Send me a sunrise photo of Italy sometime, and Ill post it!

OMG! I just got the new Dolce& Gabbana perfume "THE ONE". I love it! Its got a little Jasmine and Vanilla in it. It reminds me of Rome Italy. Part romantic, part citrusy. Its hard to explain., but it smells fabulous!!!

This will be my signature scent for the next year. (I only wear something for 1 year).

I dont know where they sell it here locally, but I got mine from Neiman Marcus.

Here's a video I found of it too, that they are showing in Europe, featuring Gisele Bundchen, the famous model from Brazil. (and actress)
